Time of Your (Good Riddance) by Green Day is a song that has been important to me over the years. It has really helped me to move on to my next “adventure”. It always seems to pop-up when I am going through something new and difficult.
“It’s something unpredictable, but in the end is right, I hope you had the time of your life”.
It’s hard to leave “happy moments” that no longer exist. Sometimes they don’t exist because the “bad moments” have overshadowed them. But, sometimes it’s because they are just in the past, and they are no longer relevant to present life. When I hear the line, “Time grabs you by the wrist…So make the best of this test” it makes me feel that we are all in this together. We all have these feelings of wanting to “hold on” to something that is gone, and we just have to “make the best” of it.
As well, when I hear the lines, “take the…still frames in your mind…hang it on a shelf in good health and good time….for what it’s worth, it was worth all the while”, it reminds me that if we hold onto the past (good and bad memories), it blocks us from the possibility of receiving new and wonderful experiences.
Of course I don’t have this life thing all figured out, and it’s a daily process of trying to put the puzzle pieces together. But, but when I find songs that speak to me, it sometimes can help the process.
